Visit Westonbirt House & Gardens in the Cotswolds

Tetbury | Gloucestershire
Cotswolds

'The finest example of Victorian architecture, landscape and gardens in the Cotswolds' says Country Life Magazine of Westonbirt House and Gardens. And they're right: the neo-Elizabethan building is spectacular! It was designed by architect Lewis Vulliamy (1791-1871), and inspired by Wollaton hall in Nottinghamshire. Inside the house you'll find extravagantly decorated interiors including the Library, the Reading Room and the Saloon.

The gardens at Westonbirt House boast formal terraces and lawns  which gradually give way to informal areas with carefully placed specimen trees. Highlights include the Italian Garden, the Long Terrace and the informally planted West Gardens which feature a variety of mature trees, an ornamental lake and a rockery. The house and gardens were installed by their wealthy owner, Robert Holford (1808-1892), who was responsible for planting Westonbirt (now the National) Arboretum.
