Longborough Festival Opera: Outstanding Productions in The Cotswolds
Longborough Festival Opera in Gloucestershire is an ambitious summer festival, taking place in a 500-seat home-grown theatre overlooking stunning views of the Evenlode valley. The 2023 programme runs from 29th May to 3rd August and includes the usual fantastic standard of production that LFO has become known for. You can enjoy the following throughout the season:
RICHARD WAGNER: GOTTERDAMMERUNG, 29 May - 6 June
Gotterdammerung marks the epic conclusion to the LFO's new Ring cycle, following acclaimed productions of Das Rheingold in 2019, Die Walkure in 2021 and Siegfried in 2022.
GAETANO DONIZETTI: L'ELISIR D'AMORE (THE ELIXIR OF LOVE), 20 June - 1 July
A travelling quack doctor offers a lovesick young man a cure for all his problems: the elixir of love. A hilarious satirical comedy - one of Donizetti's most-loved works, and one of the most popular operas of all time.
CLAUDIO MONTEVERDI: L'ORFEO, 11 - 18 July
Monteverdi's poignant and revolutionary take on the Orpheus legend, often considered the first operatic masterpiece.
HENRY PURCELL: THE FAIRY QUEEN, 29 July - 3 August
Composed to fit between acts of Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. This new production will use the dramatic framework from Shakespeare's text: combining words and music to present Purcell's beautiful, life-affirming score.
