UK Road Trips to Less Touristy Destinations
If you love nothing more than a road trip but want to find amazing UK destinations that are less touristy than some of the obvious hotspots, then you'll love the recommendations we have for you.
Herefordshire
Easy to reach from Bristol, Birmingham, the West Midlands, and south Wales, Herefordshire ticks so many boxes. Food, drink, culture, and shopping? You got it! Highlights include the cathedral city of Hereford and the market town Ledbury, both full of wonderful shops, historic streets and charming buildings. Not to mention venues which host fantastic live events.
For outdoor activities, head to the beautiful Wye Valley for stunning views, relaxing or challenging walking, and water activities on the river Wye. Enjoy visiting filming locations from your favourite series and films? You'll recognise the Wye Valley! Herefordshire is home to many beautiful gardens too, as well as family-friendly attractions.
From there, hop across the border to Wales, or in the other direction, to Worcestershire.
Wales
If you're a bibliophile then you really have to add Hay-on-Wye to your road trip itinerary. As well as lovely surroundings and the river to enjoy, Hay has loads of characterful book shops to explore - not to mention the annual Hay Festival (though if you are escaping the crowds, perhaps avoid Hay during that short period!)
For fascinating museums, head to South Wales, or to explore more incredible nature drive north west to the Elan Valley.
Worcestershire
The historic City of Worcester boasts not just a cathedral, independent and high street shops and endless dining options, but also child-friendly activities and historical hotspots.
For fun outdoors in Worcestershire, explore Wyre Forest, the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the UK. There's the Malverns too, of course. Or visit an historic Castle.
