Learn About The History & Art of Willow Craft

Taunton | Somerset

Tucked away in the rural village of Stoke St Gregory, in the heart of the Somerset Levels the Coate family have been growing withies on the moors since 1819 and making baskets and willow charcoal for almost 50 years. The unique wetland environment of the Somerset Levels and moors is perfect for growing willow as well as being a haven for wildlife.

At the Visitor Centre at Coates English Willow you can learn about the history and art of willow growing and basket making. And of course browse and buy the willow craft on sale.

Enjoy the beautiful Somerset surroundings on foot with a gentle walk through the withy beds, or a longer circular walk along the River Tone and up to the viewpoint on the top of Windmill Hill.

You can also buy beautiful willow crafts from the Coates English Willow website below.
